Make the Most Sense Out of the Census, Part 3: 1790-1840

This third Census presentation focuses on US Federal Census records from the mid-eighteenth century back to its very beginning in 1790. Census sessions 1 and 2 are not prerequisite to this third session.

Using case study methodology, participants learn how to overcome some unique challenges in the first six US Census records. Each census listing is explored to analyze age groupings, apply a FAN analysis, and better identify name variations. You will also uncover hidden census questions and learn to use supplemental records. Working backwards in time, sleuthing skills are improved with specific techniques including lateral thinking.
